Yalu Solar Farm Launch and Taraka Power Station Commissioning
On Friday 6 January 2026, two major energy projects went live in Lae — the Yalu Solar Farm Project was launched and eight new power generators were commissioned at the Taraka Power Station, together injecting 20 megawatts of additional electricity into Lae's grid.
What was launched
- Yalu Solar Farm — 10MW renewable + 20MW storage backup (12-month build)
- Taraka Power Station — 8 × 1.25MW generators = 10MW firm capacity, operational from launch day
Investment
Combined K120 million government investment via Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited.
