How to apply for a Trading Licence in Lae
If you operate a business in Lae City, you need a current Trading Licence issued by Lae City Authority. ServiceLink lets you apply, pay, and renew without coming into the office.
Before you start
- A registered ServiceLink account — see How to register on ServiceLink
- Identity Verification (IDV) completed
- Business name and IPA Certificate of Incorporation (if applicable)
- Business address in Lae City
- Means of payment — Kina Bank card or bank-transfer details
Steps
- Sign in to ServiceLink.
- Open the Trading Licence service from your dashboard.
- Choose New Application or Renewal. If renewing, pull up your existing licence record.
- Fill in business details — type of business, location, number of employees, hours of operation.
- Upload supporting documents — IPA certificate, premise photo, any health/safety permits.
- Review the fee schedule and pay online via Kina Bank, or request a Bank Transfer reference.
- Wait for review. An LCA officer will review your application — typically within 5–7 working days. You'll be notified by email and on your ServiceLink dashboard.
- Download your licence certificate once approved. Display it visibly at your premises as required.
Tips
- Have your business and tax records ready before you start — saves time at the upload step.
- If anything is incomplete, the officer will request clarification through ServiceLink — check your account regularly.
- Keep your contact details up to date so we can reach you with the decision.
